Meet the team – Pastoral Team
We have several staff members. Here is a little more information about each of them.
Paul Rees, Lead Pastor
Paul is married to Shiona and they have four children. He became lead pastor in September 2009. Studying dentistry in London and attending St Helens Church, Bishopsgate in London was a big growing time for his faith as he heard expository bible preaching each week. Paul practiced dentistry over a ten year period while also studying preaching at the Proclamation Trust’s Cornhill training course and theology at Moore Theological College in Sydney.
Liam Garvie, Associate Pastor
Liam became the Associate Pastor at Charlotte Chapel in September 2010. Liam didn’t believe in Jesus when he was growing up, but when he went to University, everything changed. After hearing a sermon on Gethsemane, he believed the gospel and committed his life to Christ. Soon after that he felt a desire for pastoral ministry and with the encouragement of his local church, he studied theology.
Rachel Sloan, Women’s Ministry Co-ordinator
Rachel was born in Belfast, lived in England for 7 years and moved to Edinburgh when she was 13 years old. Edinburgh very much feels like home now! She grew up in a Christian family and committed her life to Christ at a young age. However, it was not until her late teens that she started to grasp the full necessity of what Jesus did on the cross and understood the need for his forgiveness. Before being on the team at Charlotte Chapel Rachel trained as a Primary School teacher and taught P1 in a school in Edinburgh for four years. She then went on to complete the Ministry Associate Programme at St Catherines Argyle in Edinburgh.
Catherine Burrows, Women’s Pastoral Visitor
Catherine was born on the Isle of Lewis in a loving Christian home. She came to Edinburgh to do her nurse training in 1979.
She became a Christian in 1988 and started to attend Charlotte Chapel at this time. She is married to Mark. They have 3 children, Alison, Abigail & Stephen.
Ross McNab, Pastor in Training
Ross was born in Edinburgh but grew up in Girvan on the south-west coast of Scotland. Having returned to Edinburgh to study, Ross became a member of Charlotte Chapel in 2012 and later completed a year-long ministry apprenticeship with the church. He is now studying Theology full-time at Edinburgh Theological Seminary whilst working part-time for the church. At church Ross is primarily involved in Young Adult’s discipleship amongst other things. Before starting training for ministry, he worked as a professional actor having studied acting at university. Ross is married to Abi.
Adam McNinch, Pastor in Training
Adam is married to Judith and they have two small children. He has been part of the church since 2003 and completed the Scottish Cornhill Training Course in 2010-12. In 2016 the elders and congregation approved Adam’s appointment as a Pastor in Training. He studies full-time at Edinburgh Theological Seminary, oversees the discipleship amongst our children and youth, leads one of our Growth Groups and is one of the church elders.
Matt Holden, Pastor in Training
Matt was born and raised in Lancaster in the North West of England but moved to Edinburgh to work as a Pastor in Training at the Chapel. As a Pastor-in-Training he will be working part-time for the Church while studying full-time at Edinburgh Theological Seminary. He is very excited about his time here at the Chapel and is looking forward to sharing the gospel with the people of Edinburgh and seeing lives changed by it! Matt will be helping lead the Young Adults work as well as serving at Rooted.
Chris Kleppe, Ministry Apprentice
Chris is originally from San Diego, California. He moved to Scotland in 2012, is married to Alison and they have two small children. He has a desire to serve God in a full-time capacity as a Pastor or Missionary and so he has recently joined the church to complete a year-long ministry apprenticeship. Also, he is studying on the Scottish Cornhill Training Course in Glasgow, and leading the Sunday Evening S1-S6 group called ‘Rooted’. Before moving to Scotland, Chris worked in the emergency services in San Diego and then as a classroom support teacher here in Scotland.
Alison Watson, BCUK Intern
Alison grew up in England and became a Christian in her teens. She is married to Graeme and they have three children. She is currently working as a GP in a local practice. Over the last five years, she has completed distance education in counselling with the Christian Counselling and Education Foundation at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. She has been allocated a place on the Biblical Counselling UK’s church-based intern scheme and is looking forward to learning more over the next two years.
